Jeffrey F. DeVoesick's main practice areas include corporate law, real estate law, tax law and estate planning and administration. Mr. DeVoesick counsels both large and small clients on matters ranging from business acquisitions and divestitures, taxation, real estate, commercial finance and closely-held and emerging businesses. Mr. DeVoesick also counsels clients on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters including corporate governance, executive/employee compensation and shareholder rights.
Mr. DeVoesick's expertise in the areas of corporate and tax law stems from his abundant educational achievements. He is a 1998 graduate of Capital University Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude. Capital University is regarded as one of the top law schools in the country in the areas of business and tax law.
While attending law School, Mr. DeVoesick earned nine CALI Awards given in recognition for earning the highest class grade in the courses of Business Organizations, Corporate Tax, Partnership Tax, Federal Personal Income Tax, Estate and Gift Tax, Secured Transactions, Commercial Paper, Professional Responsibility, and Criminal Procedure. During his time at Capital University, Mr. DeVoesick served as a member of the Law Review and also spent a semester as a judicial extern for Hon. John D. Holschuh, U.S. District Court, Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. DeVoesick is also a 1999 graduate of New York University Law School where he received his advanced law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation. New York University Law School is regarded as the top tax law program in the world. His expertise in the taxation field allows him to work closely with his clients in matters regarding choice of entity, transaction structure, wealth preservation, and estate and business succession planning.
Prior to joining Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman in 2005, Mr. DeVoesick served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Administration for Sypherlink, Inc., a software and technology company. Under his leadership, Sypherlink raised over $5 million of venture capital and partnered with industry giants such as IBM and Unisys during the intricate process of patenting its data integration technology.
Professionally, Mr. DeVoesick is active in the Monroe County Bar Association as a member and former Chair of the Executive Council of the Trusts and Estates Section. He is also a prior Rochester Emerging Bar Leader (REBL). Lastly, Mr. DeVoesick is also a member of New York State Bar Association's Real Property and Trust & Estates sections.
