Reuben Ortenberg is Of Counsel to Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman. His practice areas include zoning, planning and land use law, commercial real estate sales, purchases and leases, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Ortenberg appears before zoning and planning boards. He advises municipalities on zoning procedures and litigation of Article 78 proceedings and Declaratory Judgment Actions related to zoning and planning issues.
Prior to joining Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman, Mr. Ortenberg was President of Coral Ortenberg Zeck & Codispoti, P.C. in Suffern, NY. He has also worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Rockland County, NY and a Trial Attorney for the US Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.
Mr. Ortenberg spent three years at the US Justice Department, Civil Rights Division, after law school graduation. He was part of a team of young lawyers who investigated and prosecuted school desegregation, voting rights, and public accommodation cases in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida under the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
His representative cases include Hoffman v. Lang, 251 AD2d (2nd Dept - 1998) [Restrictive Covenant on Land] aff'd 92 NY2d 819 (1999); Board of Trustees Village of Spring Valley v. Town of Clarkstown, 292 AD2d 450 (2nd Dept - 2002) [Annexation]; Pomona Point Associates v. Village of Pomona, 185 Misc.2d 131 (2000) [Defense of Land Control Law]; McGannon v. Village of Pomona, 239 AD2d 392 (2nd Dept - 1997) [Revocation of Illegal Building Permit]; Watts v. Columbia Artists Management 188 AD2d 799 (2nd Dept - 1992) [Agency Contract Dispute].
Mr. Ortenberg served as Member and President of the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Counseling Service of Rockland County, Inc. He also was a Member and Past President of the Arts Council of Rockland County, as well as, a Member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Suffern, NY. He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Perinton Historical Society and as President of the Rockland County Bar Association in 1998-99.
