T. Mary McDonald is a Principal with Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman. Her practice areas focus on several aspects of commercial real property law, including purchase, sale, financing and leasing of real property. She also coordinates the firm's title insurance agency practice.
Ms. McDonald represented a major natural gas company in connection with a 150 plus mile pipeline constructed from Grand Island (near Buffalo, New York) to Syracuse, New York. She has also represented the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, Inc. in negotiating a natural gas lease for its Steuben County camp property.
Ms. McDonald represents lenders and borrowers in connection with large multi-family apartment mortgage loans involving properties in several states. She also represented a manufacturer in connection with a sale-leaseback and subsequent sublease of a major manufacturing facility.
Ms. McDonald is active in her profession and her community, including the following:
- She became a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (an invitation only group of top real estate lawyers throughout the U.S.) in 1991. She served on the Board of Governors from 2004 till 2006 and also served as Secretary in 2006.
- She was a member of the American Land Title Association Lenders’ Counsel Group, an invitation only national group of 75 lawyers representing lenders.
- Ms. McDonald became a fellow in the American College of Mortgage Attorneys in 2004.
- She has been a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Real Property Section since 1987. She chaired the 4,800 member Section in 1997. Ms. McDonald was instrumental in the adoption of legislation in New York imposing monetary penalties on lenders that fail to provide mortgage documentation to borrowers.
- Ms. McDonald has been named in Best Lawyers in America for over 10 years.
- She has been named in Super Lawyers, Upstate New York, for two years, most recently placing among the top 50 lawyers in Upstate New York.
- Ms. McDonald has served on the boards of several community organizations, including Volunteers of America (Program Quality Committee Chair), the Rochester Women’s Network (President for two years), Family Service of Rochester, Inc. (Vice President), The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley, Inc. (Founding member), Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys (Founding member), Women for Corporate Boards (Founding Member) and Chances & Changes, Inc., (Vice President) the Livingston County organization serving victims of domestic abuse. Chances & Changes awarded her the “Partners in Change Award” in 2003.
Prior to joining Fix Spindelman Brovitz & Goldman in 1997, Ms. McDonald was a Partner with Harter, Secrest and Emery. Ms. McDonald is a magna cum laude graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received her J.D. from Boston College Law School.
